How It Works

  • Complete your certification via Beach Health Center's private virtual portal, or scan the QR code in-store at our Portland location
  • Average processing time: About 10 minutes
  • Your medical card is sent via text
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must have a valid Maine State Driver's License or Maine ID

The online portal works from anywhere in Maine — Central Maine patients can certify without traveling to Portland.

Qualifying Conditions

Maine lets healthcare providers recommend medical cannabis for a wide range of conditions based on their professional judgment. Commonly qualifying conditions include:

Medical vs. Recreational Cannabis in Maine

Both are legal in Maine, but a medical card gives regular patients real advantages:

  • Lower taxes — medical cannabis is taxed at 5.5%, versus 10% for recreational.
  • Higher possession limits — patients may hold up to 2.5 oz, plus additional harvested cannabis at home.
  • Home cultivation — grow up to six mature plants, versus three recreationally.
  • Medical-grade selection — access higher-potency, condition-focused products with personalized budtender guidance.

Beach Health Center Hours

  • Monday – Friday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Saturday: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
  • Closed most Sundays
  • Last Wednesday of each month: Opens at 12:00 PM (Brunswick pop-up morning)

Any submissions made outside normal business hours will be processed the next business day.
